Opioid agonist treatment with easier access.
For Pharmacies
Update WinRx to the latest version to access the OAT Telemedicine Appointment option.
Once updated, pharmacies can request OAT appointments directly from WinRx and support patients without a separate referral process.
Opioids
Opioids interact with opioid receptors in the body and may cause pain relief, sedation, euphoria, dependence, and overdose risk. Opioid dependence can affect health, relationships, work, and daily stability.
OAT Clinic provides treatment support for opioid dependence using evidence-based care, medication options, follow-up planning, and harm-reduction support.
Opioid Agonist Therapy
Opioid agonist therapy, or OAT, is an evidence-based treatment approach for opioid dependence. It may include medications such as Methadone or buprenorphine/naloxone to help reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings.
OAT can support safer recovery, reduce overdose risk, and help patients work toward stability with medical supervision and ongoing care.
Methadone Treatment
Methadone is a long-acting opioid agonist used in the treatment of opioid dependence. It can help reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings while allowing patients to focus on daily functioning and recovery planning.
The treatment plan is reviewed by the clinical team and adjusted based on the patient’s needs, safety, and progress.
Suboxone Treatment
Suboxone contains buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine helps reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings, while naloxone helps reduce the risk of misuse.
Suboxone may be an appropriate treatment option for some patients. The clinician will review suitability, safety, and treatment goals before starting or adjusting treatment.
Benzodiazepines
Benzodiazepines are often prescribed for anxiety, sleep disorders, or related conditions. Regular or long-term use may lead to physical dependence, withdrawal symptoms, and difficulty stopping safely.
Our team can help patients review treatment options and safer care planning based on their clinical situation.
Nicotine
Nicotine is highly addictive and can make quitting smoking or vaping difficult without support. Treatment may include education, medication options, behavioural strategies, and follow-up planning.
OAT Clinic can help patients explore practical steps toward reducing or stopping nicotine use.
Other Treatment Options
Substance use concerns can be complex. Some patients need medication support, some need counselling or behavioural support, and others need a combination of care options.
Our clinic reviews each patient’s situation and helps build a treatment plan based on safety, clinical needs, and recovery goals.
What to Expect
During your first appointment, the clinic team may review your substance use history, current symptoms, medical background, treatment goals, and safety needs. Your care plan may include medication education, follow-up appointments, pharmacy coordination, and recovery support.
If you are experiencing overdose symptoms, severe withdrawal, chest pain, trouble breathing, or an immediate mental health crisis, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
