How it works
Four steps, from first call to first dose
Video assessment
A physician takes your history and agrees a plan with you, usually about ninety minutes for a first appointment.
Prescription to your pharmacy
We send it to the pharmacy you already use, wherever in British Columbia that is.
Follow up by video
Dose adjustments and reviews happen by video, which is where telemedicine saves you the most time.
Where telemedicine works well
If you live outside Vancouver, Abbotsford or Chilliwack, telemedicine is usually the fastest route into treatment. It is also the better option for routine follow up once your dose is settled, because it does not cost you half a day.
Your pharmacy stays local to you. We prescribe, they dispense, and the daily part of treatment does not change.
Where it has limits
A first assessment sometimes needs a physical examination, and some situations are safer handled in person. Starting Suboxone needs the first dose timed carefully, which is easier to supervise in a clinic.
We will tell you plainly if coming in is the safer choice for you, and any of our five clinics can see you.

Virtual treatment questions
Can I get Suboxone from an online doctor in BC?
Yes. Our physicians assess and prescribe Suboxone by video anywhere in British Columbia, and the prescription goes straight to the pharmacy you already use. Timing the first dose matters more than where the appointment happens, so we will either plan it around your last use or start you on a low dose regimen.
Can methadone be prescribed by telemedicine?
Yes, and it is done routinely in British Columbia. Methadone is still dispensed under observation at your pharmacy at the start, so the pharmacy part of treatment does not change. What telemedicine removes is the travel to us.
Do I need a referral or a family doctor?
No. Contact us directly. Most of our patients do not have a family doctor, and no referral is needed for either in person or virtual appointments.
What does a virtual appointment cost?
Appointments with our physicians are billed to the Medical Services Plan, so there is no fee if you have active MSP coverage. Medication is covered by BC PharmaCare for most residents. If you have no coverage, say so at the first appointment and we will sort it out.
What do I need for a video appointment?
A phone or a computer and somewhere private. That is all. If your connection is poor we can do the appointment by telephone instead.
